Comparision of Lakes Region High School's Course Offerings Five area high schools responded to our request for course offerings information: Belmont (BHS), Franklin (FHS), Newfound (NRHS), Laconia (LHS) and Merrimack Valley (MVHS). Exact comparisions were difficult, so the following is a list of courses from the five schools which are not available at Winnisquam.
High School Program Needs as Determined by Committee Additional classroom space - science labs, mathematics, computer technology. Larger stage for drama and community events. Larger media center to accommodate the increased student population and technology. Increased space for art classes. Renovated Family and Consumer Sciences areas. Renovated Industrial Technology area. New gymnasium and locker rooms, exercise room and storage for physical education/athletics. Modern kitchen and larger cafeteria spaces. Structural needs: replacing all floors in the 1939 building, improving the maintainability of the physical plant, particularly related to heat, water and electricity. Replace all windows in the 39 and 62 wings. Repair all roof systems in both wings. Bathrooms refurbished and brought up to ADA compliance. Complete re-wiring of the 39 wing. Replace entire heating and ventilation systems. Repoint and reline the chimney. Automated sprinker system in both the high school and middle school. Improved handicapped accessibility. Design the new section of the building to do away with the handicapped lifts.
Middle School Program Needs as Determined by Committee Additional classroom space - six additional classrooms for special education, altenative education and world languages. Increase the size of the nurse's area, conference room, guidance/counseling facilities and office space, main office areas and administrative conference space. Increase the size of the band/chorus room and add a general music room. Increase the size of the kitchen to make it a full-service kitchen and increase the size of the cafeteria. Need for a stage that is usable during the day for student activities. Upgrade of heating, ventilation. Refurbish all bathrooms and address handicapped compliance in areas where it is needed.
Elementary Schools Needs Improve the traffic flow and increase the number of parking spaces at Union Sanborn School. Develop a parent pick-up and drop-off area for students in the back of the building to improve safety. Improve the drainage and resurface the field at Sanbornton Central. Construction of a small field for baseball/softball/soccer use.
